Anodizing
Anodizing is one of many ways to surface-treat aluminum. The process involves converting pure aluminum into aluminum oxide through a controlled electrolytic oxidation process, where the item is connected as an anode in a 20% sulfuric acid solution. The method is sometimes also called anodizing or anodizing.
Anodizing at Ahlins is a clean process without the addition of foreign metals. Only the aluminum's own surface is converted to aluminum oxide.
The treatment is also approved for contact with food according to the EU's RoHS directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), which places high demands on environmental responsibility and material selection.
What does anodizing mean?
When an aluminum part is treated, it gets a durable and functional surface layer with several important properties:
- Abrasion resistance - the surface becomes harder and more resistant to mechanical impact.
- Dirt-repellent surface - easy to keep clean.
- Decorative finish - the pore structure of the anodized layer makes it possible to color the item.
We offer the standard colors black, blue, red and gold. - Electrically insulating – the anodized parts do not conduct electricity.
- Strong corrosion protection – suitable for demanding environments.
Our process tanks have dimensions of 2000 × 1000 × 500 mm, which allows us to handle a very wide variety of parts – from long and bulky structures to small and complex components. Thanks to our flexible suspension and production planning, we can optimize the process regardless of part size, geometry or series volume.
In regular anodizing, we build layers in the range of 5–25µm (often called “my” or µm in everyday speech). Different aluminum alloys react differently in the process, which means that the end result can be affected more or less depending on the composition of the material.
We handle parts with all types of quality requirements – from pure bulk items to components that require high surface requirements and a decorative end product.

We also have:
Hard anodizing - The layer thickness is usually 25–70 µm, which makes the treatment ideal for components exposed to abrasion, friction or harsh environments.
Coloring - We have the ability to color aluminum in our standard colors black, blue, red, yellow. Can also make special colors according to customer requests, please contact us if you want to know more
Passivation - Passivating layer that provides effective corrosion protection and excellent adhesion for subsequent painting, powder coating or bonding.
